The continued success of Mason District Little League (MDLL) over the years has been due in large part to the generosity of its volunteers and strong fundraising initiatives.
MDLL is holding our 4th Annual Hit-a-Thon this year and is our primary fundraising event. The Hit-a-Thon allows the league to improve each year. In addition to improving the equipment and fields, funds from the Hit-a-Thon allows us to provide scholarships to needy players and to conduct players’ and coaches’ clinics. This year, our fundraising takes on added significance because of our relationship with the Washington Nationals and their renovation of Mason District Park Field. Although the Nationals fund the overall renovation, there will be additional items required to enhance player experience and for future maintenance of the field. The funds raised through Hit-A-Thon will be matched be a grant for up to $20,000 from Fairfax County Park Authority.
The 2017 Hit-a-Thon is May 10th, 12th & 13th for all players. It is similar to a walk-a-thon. Each player solicits sponsors who pledge to make a tax-deductible donation to MDLL. Pledges can be based either on the total distance a player attains or a flat donation. Each player has the opportunity to hit the ball ten times. The total distance of the six longest hits counts towards the player’s score. This year, we are providing a "Home Run Derby" like setting with mixed ages throughout the evenings so that the older players can cheer on the younger ones and the younger ones can see some of the older players swing for the fences. It will be great fun for the kids and one of the highlights of their year.
No matter how much money children raise, we encourage everyone to participate and help the League for today and for future players. Key dates and all other info you need to know is online at www.mdll.org under the Hit-a-Thon link.
In the meantime, please begin thinking about how your child or team can raise money. The event website has many details about utilizing direct appeal emails, Facebook, and in-person requests.
Prizes will be available this year via Dick’s Sporting Goods gift cards and bonus certificates! Specific details for prizes will be provided at a later date and on the website.
If each Major and AAA team raises $1,200 and all other teams raise $600, we will meet our goal and keep fees at a minimum and maintain our fields and facilities. Every team that reaches their goal will be entered into a drawing for Nats’ tickets. Players and teams can also win prizes for both fundraising and batting distance.
Also, the league and the hit-a-thon cannot exist without volunteers! Feel free to contact me or go to the Sign Up Genius for volunteer opportunities including setting up the event, keeping score for your team or helping with fundraising.
Have a great season and we thank you for supporting the Mason District Little League participants!
P.S. All donations to the MDLL are tax deductible and checks should be made out to MDLL.
